Tutorial WPPM

Whole Powder Pattern Modelling

This tutorial was written by Prof. Paolo Scardi. It describes the Whole Powder Pattern Modelling (WPPM) approach for fitting diffraction data using physically sensible models to describe the effects of size and strain distributions on peak shapes. Three examples are covered in depth: nanocrystalline fluorite, a plastically deformed iron alloy, and nanocrystallien calcite. In each case the advantages of the WPPM approach are compared to more traidtional double-Voigt methods. References to the relevant liteature are included.
